Ms. Marvel - Dark Reign #44

We see Ms. Marvel lying on the floor unconscious in the Osborn residence. Osborn tell the agents to bring Ms. Marvel to the Avengers head quarters and secure her. We then later see Carrol Danvers walk into the building where she is greeted by automatic weapons. The woman is then chased down by the Avengers and shot in the leg by Hawkeye. When back in the building things turn for the worse as the secured Ms. Marvel breaks free. This was an interesting issue. So far we have had more good reads this week than bad ones. I would like to also add this to the list of good reads this week.

X-Force #18

It has been a very long time since I read an X-Force comic but this was pretty decent. The story starts with Boom Boom being held captive in a plane until Warpath shows up to help get her out of that situation. We then see Domino running toward Archangel and Wolverine to help with some survivors of some sort. X-23 gets kidnapped by H.A.M.M.E.R and is being held captive. From there is turns out for the worst. Being someone who has not read X-Force in a while this story was interesting enough to get me ready to read the next issue when it comes out. I would recommend this issue to pass some time.

Hulk #14

Domino is sitting on a roof top spying on someone when she is seen by the Red Hulk. The story opens up to her being chased down by him because he thinks she has seen his true identity. Then the red Hulk is speaking with the General about recruiting some people for a job. The first one up is Deadpool, 2nd is the Punisher. Crimson Dynamo, Thundra, & Elektra join as well to find Domino. Elektra finds her but when they get to the bar where she is waiting they are in for a surprise of their own. This was the first time I read about the Red hulk but I enjoyed the story as well as the art work. I would recommend this as something to pass the time with.

Gotham City Sirens #3

We open up this story to see the Riddler dead, only to be a little confused by the next page showing an alive and well Edward Nigma. Poison Ivy & Catwoman show up and in the next page we see the Riddler getting ready to have an interview with the press. Batman shows up and speak with Nigma about the case he is on since he has turned over a new leaf as a private detective. It is a different side of Edward Nigma that is rather interesting. I would recommend this issue if you are looking to read a different take on the DC universe.

Pitt / The Darkness #1

This story opens up with Jackie Estacado eating in an Italian restaurant. Gun shots open up in the next few scenes. We come to see what they are shooting at seems to be some sort of monsters. A lot of action happens in the first few pages which lead to a wonderfully drawn and gruesomely detailed splash page. We see Pitt & Tim trying to track some thing down through an alleyway. Until they are met up by the monsters from earlier. The scene explodes with violence and Jackie shows up to make things even more interesting. With on snappy punch lines & the story being executed very well. This was a fantastic read I would definitely recommend picking this one up.

Captain Future - Project Superpowers: Chapter 2

The story opens up with Zeus speaking about how he will punish man. It is a beautifully drawn splash page. The Black Terror is in the Pentagon headquarters with the other team mates as they see a news broadcasting that perks their interest. We see Truth & Dare fighting Captain Future as the Black Terrors team mates show up to lend a hand in the battle. The story plays out concerning the heroes that were locked up in Zeus's urn. The names of some of the characters seem as recycled childhood names you would dream up. The art work is nice but given the names of some of the characters and the plot line being a little strange I would pass on this title this week.

Blackest Night - Titans #1

With Hawk dead the new Hawk goes out with Dove to a college bar to try and have a good night. While Beast boy reminiscences over Tara's death. Hawk and Dove come to discover that someone is leading them to a trap. Mean while Beast Boy is under the influence of a mysterious deathly looking woman. This was a decent issue to read but if you are not following this story line I would pass on this title if you are just looking for something to read to pass some time.

Grimm Fairy Tales #41

I have never read one of these issues, but I must say it starts off rather shocking. We are introduced to a woman named Mercy Dante and in the first few panels she pulls out a revolver and shoot a man in the face at point blank range. Mercy is haunted by a ghost named Trishsa who's father had killed her parents when she was a child. This comic is not one for young children, with a priest being shot there is a good amount of graphic violence in this issue. This was a good issue to jump into the story arc, it was to the point & you don't get lost with what is going on. I would recommend this issue to read.

Dark Reign - Dark Wolverine #77

The story opens up with Ares working out benching weights the size of Cat wheels. While Daken is antagonizing him in the background. In a next scene the evil Norman Osborn is trying to force the Fantastic Four into terms they do not agree with, due to an incident with Ben Grimm and a Government agent he assaulted. Hawkeye ends up arguing with Daken while the FF are fighting with Ares and Venom. As the FF starts to leave they see Daken there in pain and then a bomb goes off. This was a great issue that has me waiting to find out what happens next. With a great mysterious story line and fantastic art work I would recommend this issue to pick up for an enjoyable read.

Batman & Robin #3

The story starts off with Batman on some sort of ATV dragging a flaming man through the streets of Gotham. We then see Robin and Professor PYG standing in front of a hostage with a power drill in his hand ranting incoherently. Pyg and his cronies are trying to spread this virus that destroys ones identity. This was a good read I would say it's passable. Professor Pyg is a very interesting and diabolical enemy for Batman. With his deranged personalities placing special masks on people's faces which then melt off, I would say if they continue to write this character well he could be almost as entertaining as the Joker.

Dead@17 #3

While Nara & Hazy are hiding from the demons. News of one of their friends father being wrongly imprisoned makes Nara want to figure out a plan to get him off the hook. To her surprise she comes to find out that he was murdered. Gaining some info on where the demons are gathering she recollects her thoughts with a new plan. While Hazy is muttering strange scriptures a man comes to their hideout and attempts to murder them. At the end of the book Asia shows up to tell Nara let's get ready to finish this. If you have not been a Dead@17 fan and are not familiar with these characters then you will be confused with what is going on in this issue. I would recommend passing on this title this week.

Transformers #14

I do not know if this is a recent comic but someone put this on my desk and I decided to read and review it. The comic opens up with a story called "Replay" which has an Autobot named Sunstreaker going through a very rough time. He wins a battle only to become a prisoner of a human scientific facility. After being found by Ratchet and the Autobots they build him back together. Although he does not seem to be the same and it is clear that what has happened is bothering him. The comic then switches to another story called "Rebirth" just like the old 80's cartoon this comic has the feel of when the Autobot Logo spins to the Decepticons side with out the actual drawing. The Galvatron story seems to be taken place around the original 80's Transformers movie. Galvatron makes Cyclonus his Lieutenant as they try to rebuild their army to find the Autobots and eradicate them it seems. This was a very enjoyable read. It reminded me of when I was a young child. If you are following this series then you now what I am writing about. If you want to pick up an issue to see what is going on this is a good issue to jump in on the story line.

Here is a treat for you Anime Fans: AKIRA

I know by now you have heard that Akira is turning into a live action film. So I decided to scan my Akira comics for you to read and enjoy before Warner Bros. releases the live action film.

At Comic Con it was said that the Akira movie is green lit the producer Andrew Lazar is quoted “It is a real priority project for Warner Bros. and so [the writers] are working on a draft.” When he was asked about a possible release date Lazar went on to mention possibly a third quarter 2010 or 2011 release. For those of you, who hope this is not destroyed by Hollywood it is said that original creator Katsuhiro Otomo has been brought on an executive producer.

For your reading pleasure I will try to post at least one Volume a week for you to enjoy. So here it is for your to enjoy in PDF forma just in case you do not have a comic book reader: Akira Volume 1. This is the first volume in its full entirety.

Punisher Noir

The setting takes place in 1935. The washed colors really make a nice setting for this story to begin. The story flashes back to the War and then to a man conversing about his wife. We come to find out that man is Mr. Castelione, Franks dad. We see a young hard headed adolescent Frank Castle pick pocketing someone on the street. Then the scene carries over to their store where Franks dad gets into it with some mob hoods trying to extort him out of money. This does not play out well for the hoods. When they return to their boss to report the news things do not go over so well for them and we are introduced to the man in charge. This was a great read I would recommend this to anyone who like to read a new take on the Marvel universe.

Invincible #65

I never really sat down to enjoy Invincible. I did enjoy this issue though. I know I am reading in the middle of a story arc but The characters seem very interesting. The two faced Pentagon official, Atom Eve, Oliver and the Viltrum Empire aliens, the death of a super-hero. It seems that Invincible has a lot to deal with not to mention he is in a Hospital wing trying to recover from the War he just went through. I think I will be looking forward to the next issue to read since this was enjoyable and kept me wanting to know more about these characters. If you are not a fan yet I would recommend picking this issue up.

Deadpool #5

First off let me say that you should never, "NEVER" use lyrics from a great Steve Miller Band song to make a comedic joke as an opening line for a comic. Already I can see I may not like this issue. Since I happen to be a Classic rock fan. I could not even go through with the torture of this horrible comic. The references to Lethal Weapon the fact he calls himself the Merc with the mouth. Call me old school but I remember a time when Deadpool was a really cool silent assassin. That was when Rob Liefeld introduced us to him in X-Force. When Deadpool, Giedon, and Domino were pretty bad a**. If you are a Deadpool fan that likes the cheap horrible one liners then this is right up your alley. If you are a fan that remembers this character as being a red suited evil version of Snake Eyes. Then I would run away from this title as fast as you can because it is not worth the money.

Dark Reign #3

I do not know if it is just me but ever since the end of Civil War it has been very hard for me to get back into certain Marvel Titles. I picked up this issue because the art work and the cover was intriguing. I have never read a Dark Reign issue before and sorry to say I wish I had not read this one. I usually can get in tuned with the comic that I cant wait to continue reading on. That was not the case with this issue. The fact that one of the characters is called Mr. Negative really left a sour taste in my mouth. The Hood is not suck a bad name however he reminds me of Cloak from Cloak and Dagger. This issue was just so boring to read I was relieved when I got to the last page. Pass on this if you are not reading the Dark Reign series.

Blackest Night Superman #1

I have not read a Superman Comic in a very long time. To be honest I was lost with this issue. It was good over all I am just trying to figure out who Conner is to Superman, and Black Lantern Superman is he really suppose to be Kal L? Anyway I would recommend this to Superman fans that know what is going on. As for the Blackest Night Series if you are following it then obviously you know these characters. For someone like me that has not read a Superman comic in a very long time I would pass on it. Even though it is a good read you may be lost like myself.

Batman: Reborn #3

As Dr. Elliot returns posing as Bruce Wayne, Batman & Robin do not take this impostors actions lightly. They call in some reinforcements to make sure Elliot does not dip into the family jar. Spending money as he sees fit. This is becoming a very interesting story line. Black Mask shows up, as well as the Penguin and a man they call Victor. Overall I would recommending picking this one up it was a very good read.

Batgirl #1

The introduction of this new Batgirl (Stephanie Brown) is typical this girl somehow knows a certain costumed crime fighter. Which causes her to pick up the suit and start fighting crime. But the things that bother me in this comic actually have nothing to do with the story or the art. I think it is sad that even in comics we are forced with subliminal messaging. From the Impala & Porsche scene in the beginning of the comic to the class room scene with all the students & their netbooks looking like autonomous robots. To Barbara Gordon answering her iPhone in the diner. Despite these personal issues I could do with out this comic is okay if you are a Batgirl fan. So I would honestly say you can hit or miss this one if you like. It is totally up to you.

Atomic Robo #4

When Atomic Robo contacts a Dr. Carl Sagan about a creature from outside or universe, things get interesting. This is the first time I have read an Atomic Robo comic. I found it to be enjoyable. No foul language or explicit content. Just a good'ol fun comic with great artwork. I would recommend this comic for anyone who is looking for just something to sit down with an enjoy.

The Warriors: Jailbreak #1

I may have forgot about this one if it was not for last minute revisions. This is a hidden gem. I am old enough to remember the Warriors movie and having played the PS2 game as well I can say there is nothing that strays off the path of the story premise of the Warriors. This is not one for the children there is mature language, sexual content and violence. The warriors have picked up were they left off when Ajax was arrested now it is time. Remember you never leave another Warrior behind.

Blackest Night #2

This was a good issue better than the Batman issue I read before from this series. There is a lot of action in this book. I have been an on and off Green Lantern reader but this issue makes me want to see what else will happen with this story line. I would recommend picking this one up to pass the time.

Fables #87

I have never read a Fables comic before but the cover art I thought was interesting. So I sat down with it and I have to be honest with you I found it to be rather boring. I couldn't seem to get into this book. As much as I tried I just found my self doing other things while reading this title. When I finally forced myself through to the end I felt relief come over me, like that of sitting through a bad movie (Blair Witch Project.) If you are not reading Fables and wanted to start getting into the series this is definitely not the book for you I would pass on this title.

The Marvels Project #1

I really enjoyed this read. To see a different side of the Marvel mythos unravel was a nice change of pace. Having a different explanation of the Human Torch's back story, and why Namor is so bitter against humans. To see Nick Fury and the Red Baron as friends. The story is set in the 30's and it is during the time of the Nazi war machine. I am looking forward to the next issue to see where this story goes from here. I would pick this up for a good read.

Ultimate Spider-Man #1

This issue is amazing. To see Spidy get back to his roots when he was a teen is a fresh re introduction of this awesome hero. This is a feel good comic the way comics should be. There is humor that comes up at just the right moments, suspense & mystery, blended with fantastic artwork. The new mysterious villain definitely makes me want to go and pick up the next issue as soon as it hits the stands. (Keep an eye out for the Variant cover)

Walking Dead #64

What can I say, it has been a while since I picked up an issue of The Walking Dead due to the comic shops in my area starting to close down. So when I was able to find this at a new location I had to pick it up. As usual this comic does not let down. The story is just as intriguing especially with the introduction of the new characters. The fist few pages has some wonderful artwork showing some gruesome cannibalism that is taking place. I would pick this one up for sure this week, especially if you are a Walking Dead fan.

Batman Blackest Night #1

I don't actually know how I feel about this comic. If you are following the Blackest Night series then this is a definite buy for you. However if you have not followed what is going on this is an issue you probably wont miss. The story is directed on Batman & Robin so you can follow along with no problem. It is an interesting enough story but I myself cannot see me becoming interested in making sure I pick up the next two issues. I myself would pass on this title.

Batman #689

This is the first of the Reborn books I have read. Honestly it is not half bad. There is great art work and their is appearances from both Two Face & the Penguin. If you are a Batman fan who has not read the 1st reborn chapter I would recommend picking this one up. The only disappointment I have and this is a spoiler is the design of the new batmobile.

The Stuff of Legend Volume I: The Dark

This is a hidden gem the amazing art work, the innovative story line. It is captivating. This is something definitely worth reading. An amazing Graphic Novel I cannot wait until September to read the rest of the story. Don't let this title pass you by.

The Boys #33

Being a mature read I have always found the Boys to be a good read. It reminds me a little bit like the premise of The Watchmen. With superheroes having problems despite the special abilities. This issue is not different. There is a lot of violence and blood, but does have the underlying premise still. I would pick this up if you are a mature reader. This is not one for the kiddies.

The Hangman #1

This is an interesting title. It seems to have a story line familiar to Spawn or Ghost Rider. This was a good read for something a little different with your typical DC superheroes. I would recommend this as another title to buy to pass the time. Hopefully this title can become something more intriguing and I could continue to follow the story. Time will only tell.

The Invincible Iron Man -Dark Reign #16

The Invincible Iron Man -Dark Reign #16

I am unfortunate to say I never really was an Iron Man fan and after reading this issue I still can concur. This issue is mediocre I know some other reviews have said this is a very good issue. I just did not find the story captivating enough for me to become devoted to the plot. I would pass on this title for this week.

Secret Six #12

I must say despite the fact I have not picked up a DC comic in quite some time this issue was a good read. If you have been following this series then you would understand why it is a good pick. The story is backed by some very fine artwork. I would recommend this issue for something to pass the time.

Ghost Rider Heavens Gate #1 of 6

Despite the Title which reminds me of a popular NBC television show episode which saved a cheerleader, the story line will make you think of Supernatural with some of the weapons descriptions. It seems Hollywood has official crossed over in the realm of comics with a drab ideology. If you are an ongoing Ghost Rider fan than you may want to breeze through this issue. However if you are looking for something new and creative in terms of religious aspects I would definitely pass and save my money on something more worth while.

Chew #3

This is a book I would pass on this month. The story does not seem to captivate me. The overall concept is very interesting, although I have not seemed to dive into the story line enough for me to go and make sure I pick up the next copy as soon as it hits the shelves. My suggestion would be to save your money on this month's issue.
